The North American International Auto Show was a veritable gallery of new automotive curios, but it was Audi's 2018 SQ5 that took nigh center-stage for the luxury performance crossover crowd. And it was more than the promise of a turbocharged 3.0-liter TFSI® engine shelling out an impressive 354 horsepower and the capability to reach speeds of up to 60 mph in up to 5.1 seconds that got us at Audi Central Houston excited.
For one, the eponymous road warrior promises quite the low-end V6 torque. For that, Audi plans an eight-speed tiptronic® transmission to help keep gears shifting smoothly. And with such power, whence comes the dynamism? Adaptive air suspension enables ride height and firmness adjustment, and with Quattro® all-wheel drive coming standard in order to actively distribute torque between axles, SQ5 will show itself a model of performance handling. Likewise, Audi offers the safety features to rein it all in, with Standard Audi pre sense® city functionality to detect potential collisions with vehicle and pedestrian alike and automatic emergency braking to help fully stop SQ5 from speeds of up to 52 mph. And comfort remains the perennial order of Audi's day, with SQ5 showcasing enhanced rear legroom and shoulder room as well as a folding set of second-row seats to see to increased cargo capacity.
